Kahn Family Baby Quilts (2009, 2010, and 2013)

This baby quilt was machine pieced, hand embroidered, and hand quilted especially for my grandson Gabriel whose mommy, Lori Newman, is studying to be a veterinarian. The purple fabric was left from the background of his parents’ wedding chuppah. The cat embroidery patterns were drawn by Robert Furstenau for the December 1979 issue of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. The dog embroidery patterns were adapted from images available at http://www.education.com/worksheets/?q=dogs . I was able to find the same purple fabric again to make curtains for his nursery. |

This baby quilt was made to be especially soft to help my grandson Gabriel Supnik practice sitting up and sometimes falling over. It’s called a biscuit quilt because the puffy squares filled with polyester look like a pan of biscuits. I’m calling it the “dog biscuit” quilt for the fabrics I used. I’ll pass it along to any subsequent grandchildren that also need a soft place to practice sitting in the future. |
